Stardate 3000X: With the unexpected defection of the Lemon Rangers, Earth has fallen to the evil Demagogue. Fortifying mankind’s homeworld as a bastion of darkness, the leader of Demagogue has unleashed a new breed of genetic super monsters against civilized space, ushering death and destruction on a galactic scale. In an effort to stem the catastrophe, Galaxy Police has deployed the Siren Rangers to neutralize their traitorous comrades and defeat the mastermind of Demagogue before it’s too late.

Tokumei Sentai Sirenger (特警戦隊サイレンジャー) is a Super Sentai Series inspired tentacle rape eroge published by Anim in 2007. The title is a direct sequel to Tokumei Sentai Yuzuranger.
.

.
When the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aired in the United States, some older viewers paid less attention to the weekly rubber-suit monsters and focused more directly on the nubile Pink Ranger. In Japan things were no different… except these shows had been airing since the 1970’s: and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - originally Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger - was merely the sixteenth installment of a long succession of shows known as the Super Sentai Series. That and the Japanese Pink Ranger was a hot nubile gymnastic Asian cutie; not a hot nubile gymnastic Caucasian cutie. Sirenger is targeted towards fans of Super Sentai who always wanted to see the various incarnations of sexy Pink Rangers actually lose a “monster of the week” (especially those with long vicious tentacles) and become a fluid filled sex toy.
.

.
Before formally reviewing Sirenger, I must dedicate an unfortunate moment to express my horrid dissatisfaction at the first title in the series, Tokumei Sentai Yuzuranger. Without hesitation, I consider Yuzuranger one of the worst eroge Japan has produced in the last half decade: the method of presentation was insulting, the tentacle sex lacked any sort of motivational imagination, and every moment of art and sound violated the nervous system. Perhaps one day, when my physiology recovers from the criminal trauma inflicted upon it, I will have the courage and strength to make a recollection of the horrors and nightmares I suffered to finish it… but until then know this: dogs will spew gelatinous bile more entertaining. How the hell Anim was able to actually profit from such an abomination as Yuzuranger is completely beyond me, but a sequel they did make.
.

.
Despite the misgivings I have against its forbearer, Sirenger is mercifully an incredible improvement. As a sexfest, the title is not expected to seriously mire in plot or character development, however the creators made a relative passing effort at connecting the various scenes together and add flavor to the cast. Its no Shakespearian theater - just a series of fairly obvious Super Sentai commonalities - but an appropriate quality of mood is set, offering greater enjoyment than would be typically expected. For those lucky gamers who did not participate in Yuzuranger, the cameo appearances will be completely overlooked and perhaps even confusing, but the lack of awareness is not detrimental: in-game dialog fills the required details. Unlike most eroge, the player does not take the role of a male protagonist… or even a female protagonist. Instead the viewer is literally watching a television show, with a handful of “turning points” during the episode being presented as a choice of options to predict what happens next (which of course actually happens). The plot occasionally does not take itself seriously, with the unseen Narrator and characters breaking “fourth wall” from time to time between episodes, but on the whole such things never get too distracting.
.

.
In a proverbial nutshell, the storyline to Seirenger goes as follows: the Lemon Rangers, an elite band of Galaxy Police warriors sworn to defend the Earth, were defeated and captured by the forces of a previously unknown criminal organization known as Demagogue. Immediately murdering the male members, the agents of Demagogue proceeded to interrogate and torture the remaining Rangers until they were physically and mentally broken into changing allegiance. Before the Galaxy Police was aware of the tragedy that befell them, the entire Sol System had fallen to evil, spreading its vile corruption across civilized space at an alarming rate: due in no small part to the treacherous actions of the rechristened, Dark Lemon Rangers. In response, as an interstellar force lures the bulk of Earth’s conventional defenses away from the sector, the Siren Rangers are covertly deployed to strike at the heart of Demagogue and preserve the freedom of sentient life across the Universe. Queue cheesy heroic action music!
.

.
While the voice acting maintains consistent good quality throughout Seirenger, the soundtrack is the actual audio attention getter: heavy metal guitar rifts, jazzy piano tunes, and funky techno beats that are surprisingly catchy. Not all songs exactly fit the mood, but honestly hearing such music makes that complaint moot. The quality of the music even counterbalances the poor sound effects. Fortunately the art department is no slouch either: 181 event illustrations, the vast majority spread across 41 erotic scenes. While nothing groundbreaking, the artwork is rather good, with Seirenger focusing everything on sex, sex, and more sex. Character designs for the women are especially pleasing on the eyes, and tentacles received close attention to detail with all the little protrusions and slime. Some failings do exist, with the backgrounds being less than promising and an outright hideous dialog box, but the paper dolls mitigate this damage with vivid and pleasing presentation.
.

.
Suffice to say: if you have a passion for sinister tentacles, Seirenger is a strong contender for consideration, without the trappings of truly malicious offerings. It contains the prerequisite ripped hymens, malformed wombs, and more tentacles shoved in organic orifices than realistically possible; but absolutely zero scat, no gratuitous gore, and not a drop of vomiting. While clearly not the best – lack of diverging/separate endings (it’s an all or nothing evil harem end) and somewhat unimaginative employment of the tentacles during sex are lingering complaints – the positives are clearly more polished than usual. I’ve always associated Anim as producers of halfhearted quick money gimmicks, and the preceding Yuzuranger was a perfect example, but if Seirenger is proof of newfound standards, with a little more refinement and lasting game play they might actually change that.

— Scored Summary —
.
Scenario: 5 out of 10. While the plot is obviously light and fleeting (because sexfests are not particularly known for deep story) there’s enough dialog and exploration of the characters to get a feel of who they are and what makes them tick. Unfortunately only one “good ending” is achievable, and it’s actually an evil conclusion.
.
Visual: 15 out of 20. Character designs are universally appealing and event illustrations remain as plentiful as they are gratifying - in an evil way of course. Backgrounds are lacking and the menu layout is just piss, but you’ll quickly put them out of mind when the sex begins.
.
Audio: 13 out of 20. Classical “only the women are voiced” service. Lots of screaming is to be had and you won’t cringe from any of it; which really means something. The soundtrack is inappropriately used from time to time, since certain songs just don’t fit the scene, but the music is worthwhile. Composer deserves a raise for such work. Sound effects aren’t so hot though.
.
Erotica: 30 out of 50. Not so diverse since its predominantly tentacle stuff and the occasional orgy - but the sex occurs rather frequently. Technically average all around, as a typical scene is only 4 or 5 images, but nothing feels abrupt or rushed. Synergy from the visual and audio factors makes things feel rather polished as well.
.
Mechanics: 0 point neutrality. The typical “choose your response” menu system that most eroge share. Not presented very often, but its common enough to remember you’re playing a game.
.
Final Score: 63 out of 100. Tokumei Sentai Sirenger is only a simplistic sexfest, and it never tries to be anything more than a simplistic sexfest… but sometimes all you want is simplicity and sex: nothing more, nothing less. When compared to any other genre, everything is easily blown away by due to a lack of true story development and heart wrenching drama, but compared to other sexfests: this is something that won’t disappoint with the goods. Not recommended for purchase in general, but if available at a bargain price, worthy of consideration if you really love tentacles.

Huh, I never knew they had sentai-type eroge over there. But then again, this is Japan.

@anime_otaku: Anim is a subdivision of Crowd. Specializes in the “violent” and “brutal” genre of eroge. Homepage can be found at this site.
.
@Zeroblade: Heh… Japan has eroge for everything. Even stuff that shouldn’t have eroge. ^_^;

Im curious as to where you downloaded this from. Im not able to read Japanese and the links above lead to a site in full Japanese, but if Tokumei Sentai Sirenger is anything like Answer Dead by Le.Chocolat & black LiLiM then it probably cant be considered that bad or too explicit.

@DaAnimeGuy: I bought the game at Softmap in Akihabara. As far as I am aware, the title is not available as a download at the time of this posting… although DLSite should carry it after a few months from now. You are correct: Seirenger is not the most violent and brutal of dark eroge, and is middle ground on the whole since there’s no blood and guts. However Anim does have titles which cater to those hunting for outright gore.

I skimmed over some of the CG to Yuzuranger because I heard it was similar to the Justice Blade series from Maika. It seemed like a pointless tentaclefest, so I skipped it, and wasn’t too interested when the sequel came out. I had no idea the evil henchgirls in Sirenger are the corrupted original heroines from Yuzuranger. VERY interesting. Maybe I’ll give the series another look.
