@Anath: You're welcome. You might want to know that ROOT recently released fandisc of sorts for YamiBou, featuring Lilith. Sure, it's a fanservicey money-milker, but you might like it nonetheless.

@Narg: Well, maybe you could do KNNT after you've done Cartagra and Nagomibako? I'm surprise twins as cute as Suzuna and Mizuna haven't been emblazoned on your site's banner already. Yes, the animation version was quite good, but had they actually followed one of the routes it would have made much more sense. Too bad, huh?

@Mazryonh: Oh! I've played the awesome Tsuki from ROOT. Great game. It's a real damn shame the hentai anime adaptation, failed to follow the canon plot. The animation quality was divine, but they butchered the hell out of the original... then again, isn't that the fate of most titles that get anime treatment?
.
@Newprimus: You da Man! I never noticed there was a non-hentai port. I've corrected the intro blurb to my review accordingly. I wish I could be confident in the knowledge that Draculius got a non-hentai port, was proof the title is getting attention in Japan. However I know that's not always the truth. A part of me is kinda sad that the sex has to be removed for a PS2 conversion, because the ones with Rika and Rian are REALLY, REALLY good. The sheer amount of added content seems to substantiate that low budget and lack of longer development time, prevented Draculius from becoming truly legendary. I was really amused to also learn that Saint Grace Court - perhaps the only nun themed café in Japan - has been involved with a few publicity stunts.

Aaaaah, someone else has been bitten by the Draculius bug as well. :D

I'm glad to see that you enjoyed the game. I finished this game some months ago and raved about it on Animesuki, and it's refreshing to see it get more attention. Also there's apparently a PS2 all-ages port coming out, and there's what seems to be a manga adaptation to be released on Dragon Age Pure magazine under the title "Moon Ties" or something, (which is also the term used for the unique supernatural abilities of each vampire, I believe).

The series is supposed to start in volume 8 of Dragon Age Pure and I'm sure it's already released, but I have YET to acquire a copy of it anywhere, which is totally frustrating.

@Mazryonh: Going off topic, but thank you、thank you, thank you for that link. I've been interested in Yami Boushi for a while, but haven't been able to find it. I would never have expected it would be available for paid download, but now I know. Thanks~

Yes, I do. It's rare enough that English reviews for games of Cartagra's caliber come out, and I have a feeling you'll enjoy it.

Another game I think you'll enjoy is the old Kao no nai tsuki, published by ROOT, illustrated by Carnelian. Beautiful art even today, a killer soundtrack I saw fit to order over the internet, and the only game I know where the best possible ending is achievable only with twincest. You might like that sort of thing.

Best of all, it's available for paid download, here:

@Hemisphere: Ah. I overlooked reviewing that part in detail. Maybe I should go back to amend the error... But in answer to your question: the acting is believable and authentic, fitting each of the roles like a silk glove. The only time it stumbles, is when Engrish pops up and during sex scenes. Good as the actresses are, they still fall into the same traps that native Japanese commonly suffer. However this problem is mitigated, due to a running gag about each girl's English sounds funny to the others - one is American, two are English, another is Irish. So the in-game explanation for the Engrish, is the differing accents the girls are hearing: a really damn creative way of tackling that issue. As for the sex, while Shindou Mayumi (Rika's VA) is outstanding in every other situation, I wasn't really convinced during her performance for the love making.... she just didn't seem "into it" for some reason. To a lesser extent, Kazane (Rian's VA) was a bit lacking for the sex, although she does better than Mayumi. However this just might be me: the scenes are still very kinky and energetic thanks to the accompanying artwork. Despite my nitpicking, for 99% of the game the voice acting is top notch unbeatable stuff. The people chosen for each character, really fit the personality portrayal - had the roles been filled by others, perhaps this might have not been the case... So in essence the type casting was perfect. Can't ask for much more than that.
.
@Mazryonh: You really want me to play Cartagra, don't ya? ^_^
Not to worry. I have the game installed on my laptop, and will be giving it my full attention in a few more days... as well as that twincest fan disk you mention.

I learned the hard way that in the game industry, it's not the amount of quality you put in your titles, it's how many people you can convince them to buy it! And so the harsh truth has claimed another victim . . .

If you like gothic horror titles, what are you waiting for? If you still own Cartagra, why not give it a shot? It'd be well worth your time (even with the limited twins experience, its fandisc Nagomibako has more), and perhaps it might even move you to do a blow-by-blow review (that is, if you're not feeling too lazy).

Good work!

P.S. Is it just me, or does Viskes Granchester look very much like one of the heroines from Muv Luv?

Very interesting review! I've seen nothing but praise for Draculius whenever it's brought up. This review just makes me want to grab the game and play it all the more. Out of curiosity, how would you label the voice acting in Draculius? I've checked the list of the voice actresses and most of them are very familiar names, excluding one. How would you label their performance?

As for the lack of attention that Draculius received/is receiving, it's probably because of low publicity, together with the slew of other titles from big name companies who had been promoting their products for quite a while until their release.

@Zeroblade: I indeed have a huge liking for gothic eroge in general: succubi, vampires, werewolves, etc. There seems to be a higher abundance of plot complexity within the genre. However that does not mean I'll automatically enjoy them. I detest garbage like Yami no Senou and will happily point out the substandard stuff like Zaishuu the SiN is not worth buying. However its no secret - at least on the various boards I post on - that I worship enslavement and twincest eroge just as much, if not more so.
